According to the prosecutors in Nanterre, Achraf Hakimi was charged with rape on Friday.
Last week, a preliminary investigation was opened against Hakimi after a 23-year-old woman went to the police station and accused him of rape.
Although the alleged victim did not press charges, an investigation was opened due to the gravity of her testimony.
The prosecution office has since revealed to ESPN that the Morocco international has been placed under police monitoring.
Hakimi has also been banned from contact with the alleged victim.
Meanwhile, his lawyer, Fanni Colin, said he wants to clear his client’s name and will cooperate fully with the investigation.
