Reports suggest that Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti will leave Los Blancos at the end of the La Liga season to take over as Brazil’s national team coach.

Brazil, having recently slipped in global football rankings, hope Ancelotti can spearhead a resurgence as he leads the Seleção through the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America on a one-year deal.

His expected appointment follows a disappointing UEFA Champions League exit to Arsenal, after failing to beat the Gunners in both quarterfinal legs. Speculation around his departure intensified after a loss to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. Real Madrid fans now wait anxiously to see who will succeed the Italian at the Santiago Bernabéu.

With Los Blancos just four points behind Barcelona in the standings and still in contention for the league title, Ancelotti has the chance to end his second tenure with silverware. An El Clásico is scheduled for May 11, giving Madrid a vital opportunity to close the gap on their rivals.

During his time at the club, Ancelotti has won two La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey, two Supercopa de España trophies, two UEFA Champions League titles, the UEFA Super Cup in 2022 and 2024, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Brazilian Football Confederation expects Ancelotti to be on the touchline when Brazil face Ecuador and Paraguay. The Italian will be eager to implement his tactics ahead of the World Cup, continuing to work with players like Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, and Endrick their time together in Spain.
