Racheal Kundananji overshadows Osisat Oshoala in Spanish Womens League

The Zambian striker is so far the joint top scorer in the Spanish women's league with 6 goals in 8 matches for Madrid CF.

Zambian Women’s National team striker Racheal Kundananji has continued with her fine form in the Spanish Women’s League for her new club Madrid CF where she has now scored 6 goals in 8 matches.

She scored her sixth goal on Saturday afternoon against Real Sociedad and forced an own goal which was deflected behind the back of the next by Adriana Nanclares Romero to secure a 2-0 victory for the Madrid side who now sit in second position with 19 points on the Liga F log standings, two points away from league leaders Barcelona.

Kundananji’s goal today meant she is so far the highest African goal scorer in the Spanish topflight league and joint overall top scorer with Spanish striker Alba Maria Ferrer of Levante and Brazil’s Ludmila Da Silva.

The other African player with more goals in the Spanish league is Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade who has netted 5 goals in 7 matches for Atletico Madrid while 2022 and six times CAF best female player of the year award winner Osisat Oshoala has only managed to score two goals for Barcelona so far this season in her last seven matches.

Kundananji who missed the 2022 Women’s Africa cup of Nations in Morocco, has since made a cut in the latest squad for the Copper Queens that will play Colombia on the 12th of November 2022 in an international friendly match.

She is also expected to be part of the squad that will be going to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where Zambia will face Spain, Costa Rica and Japan in Group C.
