22-year-old Ajax Amsterdam star Mohammed Kudus joined the rest of the world in paying their last respects to former Ghanaian international Christian Atsu.

The former Chelsea and Newcastle winger was confirmed dead by his agent on Saturday. This came after he went missing for almost two weeks under the rubble of the earthquakes that hit Turkey.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, left over 10,000 people dead.

Atsu was plying his trade at the Turkish Super Liga club, Hatayspor until his death.

Meanwhile, after slotting in a free kick in the 84th minute against Sparta Rotterdam, Kudus revealed a message under his shirt that read, “RIP Atsu,” amid an embrace from his teammates.

RELATED STORY: Christian Atsu found dead

Kudus was only 14 years old when Christian Atsu walked away with the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations’ best player award following Ghana’s penalty shootout defeat to Ivory Coast.

Ajax ran out 4-0 winners on the night, with Kudus’ freekick goal preceded by strikes from Dusan Tadic (twice) and Kenneth Taylor.

It was also the Ghanaian’s first career free-kick goal and his 9th in the Eredivisie in 21 appearances.

The three points sent the 2019 UEFA Champions League semifinalists within touching distance of the league leaders, Feyenoord.
