Though he is in camp together with all players, Gabadinho Mhango will not be involved in tomorrow’s encounter.
Malawi National Football Team head coach Kalisto Pasuwa faces a setback ahead of tomorrow’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Equatorial Guinea in Lilongwe, as South Africa-based captain Gabadinho Mhango has been ruled out.
Mhango is a key player for Malawi, having scored two goals and provided an assist against Liberia and Namibia in last month’s qualifiers.
The Richards Bay striker has accumulated two yellow cards—one against Namibia in Francistown, Botswana, where Malawi won 2–1, and another during the 2–2 draw against Liberia at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
This means that Mhango, who remains in camp with the rest of the squad, will only miss the Equatorial Guinea match tomorrow and will be available for selection against São Tomé and Príncipe in Tunisia next Tuesday.
Apart from Mhango, Malawi will also be without England-based defender Jubril Okedina and attacker Chikumbutso Salima due to injuries.
Salima sustained an injury during his club FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ match against Silver Strikers on Sunday in Blantyre.
However, Pasuwa has not made any technical adjustments to replace the trio, expressing confidence that those available will deliver the goods. Pasuwa is expected to address the media this afternoon ahead of tomorrow’s clash.
