After having a disagreement with manager Rigobert Song at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana has announced that he has retired from international football.
The 26-year-old Inter Milan FC shot-stopper announced his retirement on social media on Friday morning.
But every story, however beautiful it maybe has it’s end and my story with the Cameroonian national team has come to an end. Players come and go, names are fleeting but Cameroon comes before any person or player. Cameroon remains eternal and so does my love for the national team and for our people who have always supported us no matter how difficult the moment was.
Wrote Onana.
Onana, who made his debut for Cameroon in 2016, played 34 matches for the indomitable lions, and his last match was at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
He played only one match against Switzerland before he was suspended from camp in Qatar for allegedly disrespecting coach Rigobert Song.
Onana reportedly got suspended from the team after refusing to comply with Song’s instruction regarding goalkeeping style ahead of their second World Cup match against Serbia.
