Morocco produced one of the tournament’s major upsets when they beat the World’s second highest-ranked country Belgium lost 2-0, a defeat that left their chances of qualifying dependent on the outcome of their final group game as they need only a point to progress.

After the match riots broke out in the Belgian capital Brussels as disappointed and angry fans reportedly took to the streets and destroyed property.

Riots in Brussels

Brussels Mayor Philippa Close told the media that the situation normalized after police forces swung into action to calm the situation.

“The situation is normalizing but our police forces remain mobilized. Thanks to the unity of command and the collaboration of the police zones, we were able to contain the incidents on an avenue. Once again I strongly condemn the acts committed by that scumbag. They will always come face to face with the Brussels police,” Brussels mayor Philippe Close tweeted.

Morocco’s Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Abdoukhlal scored the goals that secured the first World Cup win in 24 years for the Atlas Lions who had not won a group-stage game since 1998.

Morocco are now on the verge of securing qualification for the round of 16 as they play Canada in their final group game.

Their win has triggered reactions from their fans who are confident the North Africans can go all the way and even win the World’s most prestigious trophy in Qatar.

Here are some of the reactions from Morocco National team fans on Facebook monitored by BolaNews:
