On Wednesday, L’EQIPE reported that Senegalese striker Sadio Mane will miss the 2022 FIFA Wolrd Cup after suffering a tendon injury last night.

This came after the player underwent tests this morning, which set an initial recovery period of 3-4 weeks – automatically ruling out the player from Qatar World Cup.

His club Bayern Munich has since given an update on the player and revealed they are in contact with the Senegalese footballl association’s medical team.

“Sadio Mané has picked up an injury and he won’t be available for game against Schalke. Further tests will follow in the next few days — Bayern is in contact with the medical team of Senegalese Football Association,” the club has said.

The Senegalese FA hopes the 2022 CAF player of the year will be fit for the World Cup after undergoing further tests to understand more about the recovery time as Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse is expected to name his final squad next week on Tuesday.

Mané was subbed off 20 minutes into Bayern Munich’s 6-1 match against Werder Bremen at home in the Bundesliga on Tuesday evening.

There are only 12 days remaining before the Teranga Lions take on the Netherlands in their Group A opener at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
