Egyptian and African giants Al Ahly have bowed out of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after a dramatic 4-4 draw against FC Porto, ending their campaign without a single win.

The record CAF Champions League holders opened their Group A journey with a goalless draw against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, followed by a 2-0 loss to Brazilian side Palmeiras.

In their final group match on Tuesday morning, Al Ahly came out firing against Porto, needing a win to keep their hopes alive. They took an early lead in the 15th minute through Abou Ali, but Rodrigo Mora leveled for Porto in the 23rd.

Just before halftime, Al Ahly were awarded a penalty, and Ali made no mistake from the spot to restore their lead going into the break

Porto equalized again five minutes into the second half through Williams Gomes, but Ali struck back almost immediately to complete his hat-trick and put Al Ahly ahead once more. The lead didn’t last long, as Samuel Aghehowa scored for Porto just two minutes later.

Mohammed Romdhane put the Egyptians ahead for the fourth time in the 64th minute, but once again, Al Ahly failed to hold on as Pepe salvaged a point for Porto with an 89th-minute equalizer.

Despite the thrilling contest, the result wasn’t enough for either side. A 2-2 draw between Palmeiras and Inter Miami in the other Group A match meant both those teams advanced, each finishing with five points. Palmeiras topped the group on goal difference.

Palmeiras will now face Botafogo in the Round of 16, while Inter Miami are set for a blockbuster clash with European champions Paris Saint-Germain this weekend.
