Manchester United defeated Brighton and Hove Albion on penalties after a 0-0 draw on Sunday to advance to the FA Cup final, where they will face rivals Manchester City on June 3rd, 2023, with Erik Ten Hag vowing that his side will do everything possible to prevent Pep Guardiola’s men from winning the treble this season.
Solly March’s miss in the shootouts proved decisive as Victor Lindelof took advantage of it to send United into a record-equaling 21st FA Cup final.
It is also the first time United has reached both domestic cup finals in a single season since 1994.
However, reacting after the match, United manager Ten Hag vowed that his charges will give everything to stop City from winning a treble this season.
“We will give everything and when I say everything, that is everything, more than 100% you can’t do, the fans can rely on that. We want to give that against City, we want to give the fans that,” Ten Hag said as quoted by The Guardian.
Ten Hag reveals United fans are against City winning the treble
United last won the treble in 1999 and Ten Hag said he understood why the fans do not want his side to allow City to win it this season.
“I understand, of course, the feelings from the fans about it. We will do everything to give them the second trophy – everything what I have, everything the team has, the staff have. We can do it, because we prove it. It’s not easy though, it’s a great team, but we also have a great team.”
