Why Man U fans have forgotten Cristiano Ronaldo because of Rashford

Marcus Rashford is in the form of his life right now, having netted seven times in only six appearances for Manchester United FC since the restart of club football after the FIFA World Cup.

Not so long ago, he endured an underwhelming season at the club with far-from-impressive performances. The Mancunian-born marksman was overshadowed by the brilliance of a returning club hero, Cristiano Ronaldo, who netted an astonishing 24 club goals in the 2021–22 season.

Rashford’s future at Old Trafford was very uncertain, with the striker being linked with a move to other Premier League outfits and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the appointment of Eric Ten Hag, coupled with a reduced role for Cristiano Ronaldo, saw the Englishman return to peak form this season.

The Dutch manager has not only excelled in his managerial tactics but has also shown tough love to his players when needed, emphasizing the importance of discipline. Even Rashford is no exception, as he was benched in a Premier League encounter against Wolves for disciplinary reasons before coming off the bench to score the match-winner.

The 25-year-old has been firing for the Red Devils this season and also took his form to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he was the joint-top scorer for his nation.

His tally of 15 goals in all competitions for Manchester United halfway through the season is three times as many as the 5 goals he managed in the whole of last season.

The club’s push for the top four and silverware has been very reliant on his goal count, with the current number nine, Anthony Martial, far from inspiring.

However, United is set to complete a six-month loan deal with Burnley to acquire the services of Wout Weghorst, who was playing at Besiktas.

It’s left to be seen what effect the presence of the Dutch target man will have on the role of Marcus Rashford upfront. But looking at how unstoppable the Englishman is right now, it’s a strike partnership that the fans should be excited about.
