English Premier League club Manchester United has announced the hiring of Portuguese trainer Ruben Amorim as head coach, subject to work visa requirements.

The 39-year-old will join until June 2027, with an option for an additional year after completing his obligations with his current club. He’ll join Manchester United on Monday, November 11th.

United has paid Sporting an additional €1 million (£840,000) on top of his €10 million (£8.4 million) exit clause in exchange for an early release from his 30-day notice period.

Ruben joins United after winning the Primeira Liga twice with Sporting CP in Portugal, the first of which marked the club’s first title in 19 years.

This season, he has played 9 games, winning all of them, scoring 30 goals, and conceding only twice.

He succeeds Erik Ten Hag, who was fired after earning only 11 points from nine games, three wins, and four losses, leaving United in 14th place.

The club says Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to lead the team until Ruben moves to Manchester.
