Mohamed Salah was visibly unhappy to be taken off during Liverpool’s Premier League opening match against Chelsea, and Klopp has reacted.

On Sunday, Chelsea and Liverpool drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge in their 2023-24 Premier League opener.

The hosts had a difficult start against Jurgen Klopp’s side, conceding under 18 minutes when Luis Diaz scored from a Mohamed Salah pass.

VAR intervened to rule out Salah’s strike for offside, preventing the Blues from falling further behind.

If Salah’s goal had stood, he would have set a record for scoring in each of Liverpool’s Premier League openers.

Chelsea regained their composure and equalized eight minutes before the break when defender Axel Disasi tapped home Ben Chilwell’s header.

VAR was used again two minutes later to overturn Chilwell’s goal, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side continued to be a threat to their visitors.

In the 77th minute, Salah was substituted for Harvey Elliott but the Egyptian was visibly unhappy to be taken off.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp said that he had no issue with his reaction.

“I can understand because if Mo scored it would have been a new record for goals scored in the opening game but I didn’t think about that,” he said.

The forward struck the crossbar and had a goal disallowed by VAR earlier in the match.

However, Klopp added, “We needed stability and we needed fresh legs. It was super intense for everybody. That’s all I can say about it. His reaction was absolutely OK.”
