For participating in the group stage of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, each of the Copper Queens players is entitled to $30,000 from FIFA.

The Copper Queens made their debut in the competition and were eliminated in the group stage. This came after losing 5-0 to Japan and Spain, respectively, before beating Costa Rica 3-1 in their final game.

Andrew Kamanga, who is the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, has stated in his weekly president’s corner column that the association is aware of the players’ concerns about the FIFA-promised allowances.

He assures them that they will receive what is due to them as soon as it becomes available.

“We are also conscious of the anxieties that the FIFA-promised USD30,000 has caused among the soon-to-be beneficiaries,” Kamanga wrote. “We will duly ensure that the 23 players get their dues as soon as the funds are made available.”

FIFA is expected to release the funds for the players after the tournament, which is now in the semifinals concludes.

Kamanga also revealed that FAZ is providing financial literacy training to the players prior to receiving their FIFA funds.

“It is our prayer that the girls will keep their feet on the ground in the face of this rare remuneration. In a small way, we have exposed them to financial literacy training.”

He said the move is “to help them make quality decisions on spending their money.”
