Norwegian striker Erling Haaland has become the first player in Premier League history to score 35 goals in a single season.

He achieved the milestone in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday, surpassing the record held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who both scored 34 goals in 42-game campaigns.

The 22-year-old accomplished this feat in just 31 games. He is expected to add to his tally, especially with five games remaining in the season.

Haaland was given a guard of honour by his teammates after the match for the milestone he achieved on the night.

Meanwhile, Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola described him as an ‘incredible’ player who deserved the guard of honour because he is unique.

“It’s unbelievable. How many important goals he’s scored to win games, we are so satisfied.” Guardiola told Sky Sports.

“He’s a unique person and he’s so special. He deserved the guard of honour because it’s an incredible milestone. Another day he might break his own record. He’s scored a lot of goals!”

Guardiola also stated that the Norwegian goal machine is eager to win the Premier League and that the entire team is rooting for him.

“We expected him to score goals but to break Cole and Shearer records… I’m pretty sure what he wants is to win the Premier League. We have one game in hand but still just one point in front. We have to keep going and recover well.”

City has reclaimed first place in the Premier League table, one point ahead of Arsenal.
