English Premier League side, Leicester City FC announced on Monday night the appointment of Dean Smith as the club’s new Manager until the end of the season.

The former Aston Villa and Norwich City manager succeeds Brendan Rodgers, who was fired after a string of poor results. Leicester City lost 19 times in 28 Premier League games to sit 19th in the standings with 25 points.

Reacting to his appointment, Smith told Leicester City FC website that he is ready for the massive challenge.

“I’m really happy to have the opportunity to lead the team during these final weeks of the season. The challenge in front of us is clear….. But it’s one myself and my coaching team have experienced before and with the quality in this squad…. And the number of games remaining, it’s very much achievable,” he said.

Dean targets getting Leicester City players’ confidence back

Dean said he will first look to rebuild confidence in the players to quickly help the Foxes get out of the relegation zone.

“Our first job is to rebuild confidence and instill belief in the team… And I’m looking forward to getting to work with the players this week,” he told the club’s media.

“Saturday will be a very big test…. But it’s the kind of occasion that reminds us all what it means to be a Premier League club, competing on the biggest stages against the best players in the world.”

Meanwhile, Dean’s coaching staff also includes former Chelsea captain John Terry and Craig Shakespeare who makes a return to the club as an assistant coach.

They have been tasked with helping the club in retaining its Premier League status. Leicester City need positive results in their final eight games of the season to avoid relegation.

The Foxes will face Manchester City on Saturday away at the Etihad Stadium in what will be Dean’s first match incharge.
