Chelsea now a punching bag as City thumps them 4-0

Graham Potter is skating on thin ice as Chelsea continues to record losses; they are out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and rank 10th in the Premier League standings.

Three days after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s men in the Premier League at Stanford Bridge, Potter’s Blues went into Sunday night’s FA Cup third-round match looking for revenge.

Many Chelsea fans would have hoped for a fierce battle, but the home team’s outstanding first-half performance was enough to secure the victory.

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring with a beautiful free-kick, and Kai Havertz handled the ball clumsily in the box to give City a penalty for their second goal converted by Julian Alvarez, the World Cup champion striker, who made no mistake to beat Kepa Arrizabalaga with a low shot.

A few minutes before halftime, Phil Foden scored his team’s third goal after latching onto a pass from Kyle Walker and completing a great team play with a first-time finish.

In the second stanza, Manchester City were awarded a second penalty when Koulibaly brought down Foden with another clumsy challenge and Mahrez stepped up to score the four goal for the home side and his second of the match.

Chelsea are now out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and ranks 10th in the Premier League standings with 25 points in 17 matches as pressure mounts on Potter who is clearly at the worst time at the west London club.

Their next game is a Premier League encounter away at Fulham on Thursday while City who are second in the league standings with 39 points will travel to Southampton on Wednesday for the Carabao cup quarterfinal match.
