Leicester City’s talisman Jamie Vardy’s future at the King Power Stadium is still uncertain, as he has yet to commit his future to the club after helping them secure promotion to the Premier League.
The striker scored 18 goals in the just-ended EFL Championship campaign to help Leicester City win their eighth title and return to the Premier League as champions.
Vardy’s current contract is set to expire in June, with the club seeking to extend the his stay.
However, several reports suggest that newly promoted Championship side Wrexham is interested in the experienced striker’s services.
The former England international has openly stated that he has no plans to retire, and he will undoubtedly have plenty of suitors when he returns to the top flight.
Last week, reports surfaced that Wrexham was considering a move for the forward. Wrexham director Humphrey Ker told SPORTbible: “There’s nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn’t be a great Wrexham player. It’s not a name I’ve mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn’t put us off.”
What does this mean for Daka?
A move for Vardy could potentially make Zambian striker Patson Daka Leicester City’s main striker going into next season’s Premier League campaign.
Daka scored a total of seven goals with five assists in the championship. But the Chipolopolo striker also endured a tough time during the season, while he also proved to be a vital figure when the Foxes were hit with injuries to key players including Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho.
It remains to be seen whether Leicester City, who are currently serving a transfer embargo imposed on them by the Premier League following alleged breaches of profitability and sustainability rules.
The transfer embargo would restrict the club from signing new players, and holding on to Vardy would be a wise decision for the club as it aims to stay in the Premier League beyond next season.
The Foxes are also subject to a separate financial probe by the English Football League (EFL).
Vardy’s 12-year tenure with the Foxes saw him win the Premier League title and the FA Cup in 2021.
