Zambian players abroad weekend wrap| Musonda, Kundananji score first goals

Chipolopolo skipper Lubambo Musonda netted his first goal for German Bundesliga 2 side 1.FC Magdeburg in their 1-1 draw with Hertha BSC. From the edge of the box, he struck the ball emphatically to break the deadlock in the 44th minute.

Even in defeat, Stopilla Sunzu has continued to impress for Changchun Yatai this season, putting on a clinic on Saturday. In their 2-1 defeat to Chengdu Rongcheng, he recorded the most clearances (15), the most interceptions (3) and won all the seven aerial duels he contested.

Kundananji ends goal drought, Barbra Banda scores, Prisca earns first start

Racheal Kundananji ended her five game goal drought with a stunning strike against Seattle Reign on Sunday morning. Meanwhile at Orlando Pride, Barbra Banda scored her fourth goal of the season in a 3-2 comeback win against Angel City.

Prisca Chilufya got a starting berth for the first time this season on Saturday while Grace Chanda came off the bench for Pride in the 72nd minute.

Daka, Lameck benched, Frankie Musonda gets another start

Patson Daka could only watch from the dugout as Leicester City got battered 3-0 by Wolves at the Molineux. In Italy, relegation-battling US Lecce stunned title-chasing Atalanta, holding them to a 1-1 draw as Lameck Banda remained on the bench.

Frankie Musonda played the first 63 minutes of Ayr United’s 2-2 stalemate with Queens Park in the Scottish Championship. Elsewhere, Kings Kangwa clocked the full 90 minutes for Hapoel Be’er Sheva, who lost 2-1 to Maccabi Netanya in Ligat Ha’Al.

Benson Sakala gets first start of 2025, Chaiwa misses out on shot at silverware

Benson Sakala featured in Mlada Boleslav’s starting XI for the first time this year, putting in a 45-minute shift against Dynamo CB. Meanwhile in Switzerland, Edward Chilufyawas a 66th minute substitute for Midtjylland in their 5-0 thumping of Nordsjælland.

Miguel Chaiwa came off the bench in extra time as Young Boys fell 1-0 to FC Biel Bienne 1896 in the semifinals of the Swiss Cup. In Israel, Gift Mphande started for Hapoel Rishon Lezion, who drew 1-1 with Hapoel Kfar Saba in Liga Leumit.

Mwepu out for the rest of the season, Joshua Mutale’s Simba reach CAF CC final

Cadiz CF revealed that Francisco Mwepu‘s 2024-25 season had come to an end after undergoing surgery on his right knee. On the continent, Ricky Banda featured from the bench in the 73rd minute for Al Merrikh, who beat Douanes 2-1.

Joshua Mutale was unavailable for Simba SC, who qualified for the CAF Confederations Cup final after a goalless draw with Stellenbosch. In Ukraine, Golden Mafwenta did not take to the field in Metalist 1925’s 4-0 victory over Ahrobiznes Volochysk.

Kelvin Kampamba was an early substitute for Al Madina, who lost 5-0 to Olympic Azzawiya in the Libyan Premier League. Axed from the Zambia U20 AFCON squad, Ricky Chandagot 90 minutes in the tank for Nomme United in Estonia.
