Zambian players abroad weekend wrap | Lubambo, Frankie miss out on promotion

Here’s a complete roundup of Zambian players abroad and their performances with their respective clubs over the past weekend.

Doubling his scoring tally for the 2024-25 club season, Chipolopolo midfielder Benson Sakala was on target for Mlada Boleslav, who fell 3-2 to Dukla Praha. He ghosted in at the far post, scoring a bullet header to put his side ahead in the 25th minute of the Chance Liga encounter.

In Tanzania, Joshua Mutale put on a clinic on Sunday, registering two assists as Simba SC edged KMC 2-1 in the Ligi Kuu Bara. The playmaker was voted the Man of the Match after setting up two goals for Steven Mukwala in breathtaking fashion.

Lubambo, Frankie Musonda miss out on promotion, Lameck Banda’s Lecce drop into relegation zone

Lubambo Musonda was part of 1. FC Magdeburg’s starting XI in their heartbreaking defeat to SC Paderborn, which cost them German Bundesliga promotion. In Scotland, Frankie Musonda was unavailable for Ayr United, who lost 2-1 on aggregate to Partick Thistle in the Scottish Premiership playoffs.

US Lecce dropped into the relegation zone following a 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona as Lameck Banda got fielded towards the hour mark. On the other hand, Kingstone Mutandwa watched Cagliari Calcio’s 3-1 defeat to Como from the dugout.

Meanwhile, Patson Daka remained on the bench as Leicester City drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Mabika makes league debut in the United States, Fashion Sakala’s Al Fayha fall to Benzema brace

Zambia U20 defender Ricky Chanda scored in back-to-back games for FC Nomme United. He scored a spotkick in their 4-0 win against FC Tallinn. In the United States second tier, Aime Mabika played his first league match for Rhode Island. He came off the bench in the 59th minute.

Fashion Sakala Jr. played 82 minutes for Al Fayha, who fell 3-0 to Karim Benzema’s Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League. In the Chinese Super League, Stopilla Sunzu started in defence for Changchun Yatai in their 1-0 defeat to Henan FC.

Edward Chilufya features in Denmark, Chaiwa unfielded

In Midtjylland’s 1-1 draw with Copenhagen, Edward Chilufya came off the bench in the 73rd minute. Elsewhere, Joseph Liteta started in midfield for Cagliari U20 in the Primavera 1.

Miguel Chaiwa was an unused substitute as BSC Young Boys endured a goalless draw against Servette FC. Meanwhile, Golden Mafwenta made a cameo for Metalist 1925, who lost 2-1 to Bukovyna Chernivtsi in the Ukrainian second tier.
