Former Zambia national team coach Wedson Nyirenda has expressed interest to return to Zambia as head coach for the Chipolopolo boys following the resignation of Croatian trainer Aljosa Asanovic.
The Chipolopolo top job fell vacant last Sunday after Asanovic resigned over alleged contractual breaches by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), a thing which has led many fans, especially those on social media to suggest names of possible replacements.
Some of the names being suggested include the current Mozambican topflight side Ferroviaro de Beira football club manager, Nyirenda who once served as head coach of the Zambian national team from 2016 to 2018, a period where he almost qualified the Chipolopolo for the 2018 FIFA World Cup after finishing second in a group that had Nigeria, Algeria and Cameroon.

Nyirenda has since reacted to the calls and said he is ready to be the national team coach again.
I am really humbled by the calls for me to be considered for the national team job. I am ready anytime my nation calls for my hand.
Zambia is my home and anything to make Zambia great I would be part of it with all my heart,
He told the Zambia Daily Mail newspaper

Zambia has changed six national team coaches in the last six years with George Lwandamina who has also expressed interest to take up the job among the list which includes Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi, Green Eagles’ Aggrey Chiyangi, Serbian trainer Milutin Sredojevic, Belgian’s Sven Vandenbroeck and most recent, Asanovic from Croatia.
The Football Association of Zambia said in a statement last Sunday that it will engage stakeholders on the way forward with regards to the appointment of a new coach which the government through the minister of sports, Elvis Nkandu has now given greenlight to the association to hire a qualified local coach that would get the same pay as an expatriate coach.
