Zambian midfielder Kelvin Kampamba has raised the alarm over escalating unrest in Libya, where he is currently playing club football. “Things are bad,” the Chipolopolo star shared on social media, referring to the violent clashes gripping Tripoli.

The Libyan capital is experiencing heightened tensions. According to the Associated Press, the latest fighting erupted after the killing of al-Kikli, commander of the Stability Support Authority (SSA), on Monday by a rival militia.

In response to the violence, Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) has urged residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary movement, warning that further instability could follow.

Due to the ongoing clashes, training sessions have been suspended, and players have been instructed to remain in their apartments until further notice.

Kampamba, who joined Al-Madina from Benghazi-based Al-Nasr in January, expressed his concern on Facebook, posting: “Things are Bad.”

Club sources have also told Bolanews that both players and officials are living in fear, with tankers reportedly seen moving just outside their apartments.

Kampamba is contracted to Al-Madina until the end of the season. His club currently sits second in the Championship Group with seven points, two behind leaders Al-Ahli Tripoli.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya has reported civilian casualties as a result of the ongoing clashes. The UN has called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to facilitate the safe evacuation of civilians to secure areas.
