Newly appointed Chipolopolo goalkeeper coach Kennedy Mweene has said he is happy with the initial signs he has seen from the four goalkeepers he has worked with during the international break.

Mweene was recently appointed Chipolopolo goalkeeper coach, joining the Moses Sichone-led technical bench, which also has the likes of Perry Mutapa and Noel Mwandila.

In their first two assignments, Mweene’s keepers have conceded six goals, three in each of the two games played against South Africa and Angola.

The keepers that were called for this assignment were Toaster Nsabata, Francis Mwansa, Charles Kalumba and Mangani Banda.

“My first impression when we got to camp… I think, from what I have seen I am okay with  what I have seen but we can do more. As days go by and we meet again in camp, I think there are a lot of aspects we need to work on as goalkeepers,” he said.

He said the future looks encouraging.

Meanwhile, Mweene, who spoke for the first time since his appointment, said being part of the technical bench offers him a chance to contribute to the nation.

“The first time they contacted me I didn’t even hesitate to accept the call, “ he said. “I really want to contribute one way or another to the national team, especially when it comes to goalkeeping.”
