Mweene, 38, is one of Southern Africa’s most accomplished players, both at the club and international levels.

The gold winner from the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations said to Bolanews in an exclusive interview via Stream yard.

When questioned about the preliminary team, Mweene responded, “I have watched Toaster Nsabata, Lawrence Mulenga play as well as Victor Chabu of Nchanga Rangers.” He continued by saying that Francis Mwansa hasn’t been seen all that much.

Mweene, the Sundowns coaching goalie further highlighted that the three keepers summoned all have unique qualities.

While playing for the national team at the COSAFA, Mweene said Francis Chabu made his presence known in between the sticks with dazzling performances.

Nsabata is undoubtedly the most experienced among all of them but has since fallen down the perking order due to a lack of game time.

Mweene highlighted how Lawrence Mulenga has come in and done exceptionally. “When it comes to the goal keeping department you pick the most in form player.” Mweene further added “Nsabata has vast experience, Lawrence has also been with the national team for a couple of years too.”

Mweene tips all keepers.

According to Mweene, Lawrence has done well in the games he has played for the national team.

“I think the coach should let him continue, goal keeping is a sensitive department, you can’t be constantly making changes anyhow. The more games you play the more you improve. I see Lawrence Mulenga continue playing, they are all good keepers, ” he explained.

The AFCON winning keeper stated “they must know what they are carrying, I have spoken to them about been brothers because it’s a very sensitive position. They must be very supportive of each other regardless of who plays, that’s the most important thing”.

“It’s important to have togetherness especially when it comes to goal keepers, it could be unfair for me to choose who should start, who should be number 1, 2 or 3 and what not” Mweene said.
