Chipolopolo and Zesco United Midfielder Kelvin Kapumbu is expected to undergo a scan on his right knee to assess the extent of his injury.

The 27-year-old midfielder sustained an injury during Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations final Group H qualification match that saw Zambia force a 1-1 draw against Comoros in Moroni.

Kapumbu was immediately taken off the field of play in the 13th minute, forcing Avram Grant to replace the Zesco United Midfielder with Benson Sakala.

Confirming the development to BolaNews, FAZ communications manager Sydney Mungala says the player will undergo treatment to determine the extent of the injury.

“He (Kelvin Kapumbu) is currently in Ndola, where the National Team Doctors have booked an appointment for him to undergo a scan to assess the extent of his injury,” he said. “The injury didn’t look serious, but the scan is just for the purpose of asserting if the injury is serious or not.”

The Chipolopolo Boys are expected to play a friendly match before the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers kick off in November.

They will begin their campaign against Congo on November 13, 2023, before facing Niger a week later.

The two games will also give Grant an opportunity to assess the team before announcing the final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2024.
