Zambian midfielder Kelvin Kapumbu has been released by Israel’s second-division club Hapoel Petah Tikva, just two months after signing him from Zesco United for a season with an option to extend.

Kapumbu, who is represented by Next-Gen Sports Agency, signed with the Israel club on July 30, 2024, ahead of the 2024-25 season.

He played only seven games for the club, three of which were in the Leumit League.

“Petah-Tikva admits midfielder Kelvin Kapumbo was released this morning from the club,” the club announced on Wednesday morning.

The reasons for his release have not yet been revealed; however, the club’s fans reacted, implying that he was not good enough.

Moshe Div a fan said, “Good luck to him, one of the weakest foreigners that were here.” Another fan Nachi Indik also reacted on Facebook, “Excellent, whoever is not well quickly go home, it’s a waste of time and money.”

But Yossi Don wondered, “So why did they sign him in the first place?”

Less than 30 minutes later, the club announced Kapumbu’s replacements.

They’ve signed 26-year-old midfielder Ohad Hazut to a contract that will last until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a response from the player and his management had been unsuccessful as of the time of publication.
