Chipolopolo midfielder Kings Kangwa was the star of the show on Saturday, scoring a sensational match winner at MS Ashdod to give Hapoel Be’er Sheva a huge boost in the title race.
A positive start from the visitors saw them break the deadlock in the 7th minute when Guy Mizrahi’s shot took a wicked deflection, wrongfooting the goalkeeper as it went in.
Ashdod levelled matters on the transition just nine minutes later. Eugene Ansah capitalized on a poor clearance from Djibril Diop to score into an empty net with the goalkeeper in no mans land.
Nearing the hour mark, Ansah attempted to switch the ball from the wing into the middle of the park but it felll to none other than Kings Kangwa. The Zambian playmaker raced towards goal before ferociously striking the ball into the top corner from outside the penalty box.
Hapoel Be’er Sheva went on to secure maximum points thanks to Kangwa’s magical moment, opening a seven point lead over Beitar Jerusalem at the summit.
Kangwa, meanwhile, has now directly contributed to a goal in six of his last seven matches, making it four goals and three assists since the turn of the year.
“I chose to stay” – Kangwa.
Speaking after his side’s 2-1 victory, Kangwa said, “These are great days for me. I feel truly blessed. Every game is important. We are not focused on the table but on each match, taking it one step at a time.“
The Chipolopolo midfielder recently became a father to a baby boy but missed the birth in order to feature for Hapoel Be’er Sheva at the weekend. He further reflected on that decision, explaining why he chose to stay with the team and delay travelling to be with his wife.
“The decision? It wasn’t that hard. I spoke with everyone including the coach and club president and together we made the right decision [for me] to stay,” revealed Kangwa.
Hapoel Be’er Sheva will host Ashdod next weekend before welcoming Songa Chipyoka’s Hapoel Petah Tikva a week later.
