Honour Janza, an aspiring candidate for the Zambia National Team head coach position, has been appointed by Ndola-based Super League side ZESCO United FC as the club’s technical director.
Janza, who has been the head coach of Tanzanian Premier League club Namungo Football Club since 2021, stepped down immediately after being appointed technical director on a three-year contract with ZESCO United.
He also served as interim head coach for Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, taking charge of three matches, winning one, losing one, and drawing the other.
Zesco United chairman Maxwell Saya is optimistic that the appointment of Janza will enhance football development at different levels at Zega Mambo.
He has described Janza as a qualified manager with great credentials.
“Janza is a highly qualified manager who has worked at the highest level of African football and comes with great credentials.” “We are positive his vast experience in the game will enhance football development at different levels of the club,” Saya said.
Last week, Zesco United also announced the appointment of George Lwandamina as their new head coach for his third stint with the club.
The immediate former Kabwe Warriors head coach will work hand in hand with Janza to reposition Zesco United both on the local and continental football stages.
Janza last held the position of technical director at Zambian Super League side Napsa Stars Football Club before leaving to coach at Namungo FC in Tanzania.
He recently applied and was shortlisted for the vacant Chipolopolo Boys coaching job, and he was regarded as one of the frontrunners for the job, alongside Wedson Nyirenda and Avram Grant.
Janza is the last Zambia National Team coach to qualify the Chipolopolo Boys to the Africa Cup of Nations when he guided them to the 2015 Equatorial Guinea edition, and he leaves Namungo in the eighth position with 18 points from 14 games in the Tanzania Premier League.
Namungo has won 5 matches, with 3 draws and 6 losses, with only one win in their last 5 games under Janza.
