Budding defender David Hamasenya, who recently joined Spanish club C.D. Leganés on a four-year contract from Shamuel Academy, is excited to be called up to the senior Zambia national team squad that will face Morocco on Monday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Hamasenya impressed at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he played in each of Zambia’s matches and earned praise from fans.
“It’s a big honour, I feel so proud to represent my country and to be among those selected. It’s really motivating me to keep working harder,” Hamasenya told BolaNews in an exclusive interview.
On his ambitions, the 18-year-old defender revealed he is targeting a place in Avram Grant’s starting eleven.
“I want to make a strong impact in the national team,” he said confidently. “My target is to work hard and break into the senior team’s starting eleven, not just being part of the squad.”

Hamasenya also acknowledged the role of senior players in helping him settle into camp.
“The senior players have been very supportive. They have been giving us youngsters advice and encouraging, and helping us to stay focused and confident,” he said.
This is Hamasenya’s first call-up to the senior team, and he will be hoping to make his debut for the Chipolopolo on Monday in what is a crucial must-win game.
