Mwansa joined Buffaloes in July 2023, following an impressive season with Trident FC, who won the Zambia National Division One League.

Despite being a regular call-up to the national team, the 21-year-old keeper has fallen on the pecking order at his club, leading to his removal from the national team.

“I don’t have game time at my club, so I think it affected me so much,” Mwansa told BolaNews.

He has only made six appearances for his club this season and kept one clean sheet.

In an interview with Bolanews, his coach, Tembo, said Mwansa is a second-choice goalkeeper who has to fight for playing time with the first-choice goalkeeper, Clement Kasongo.

“People need to understand that Francis Mwansa is our second-choice goalkeeper so it’s not always that he would be in goal,” he said.

“But still, he has featured in most games, especially against big teams like Zesco, Kabwe Warriors, Konkola Blades, and prisons, just to mention a few.”

Tembo also stated that Mwansa still has an opportunity to prove himself in the remaining games.

“We are yet to play him in other coming games based on how he trains, compared to the first-choice goalkeeper, Kasongo,” Tembo said.

Buffaloes are currently in 12th place, with 30 points from 25 games played, including 8 victories, 6 draws, and 11 losses.

Next Wednesday, the Army-sponsored team will face Kansanshi Dynamos in the Zambian Super League.
