The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has requested government support, through the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts, to fund allowances for the Chipolopolo players for the friendly against Argentina next Tuesday and to assist with logistics for the Four Nations tournament in Botswana.
In a letter to the ministry from acting FAZ general secretary Iva Lengwe, the association said Argentina is providing air tickets, visas, accommodation, meals, training venues, and transport within Argentina, but not player allowances.
The ministry, through its principal public relations officer, Nchimunya Nga’ndu, confirmed receiving the letter from FAZ.
Nga’ndu said the government is committed to supporting national teams where possible.
“The Association has specifically requested government support towards player allowances for the Argentina fixture. For the Botswana tournament, the request covers charter arrangements and other related logistical requirements. We may not be able to support them fully (100%), but we will be able to do something more, especially for the Botswana outing,” Nga’ndu explained.
He added that the government remains committed to providing athletes with the support they need, regardless of their discipline.
Zambia was invited to a friendly game in Buenos Aires against the world champions, led by Lionel Messi.
FAZ president Keith Mweemba revealed on Monday that the Argentina Football Association is providing all logistical support for the friendly match.
