Emmanuel Banda scored to help HNK Rijeka secure a place in the Europa Conference League qualification round.

Rijeka drew 1-1 with Osijek on Saturday night moving closer to next season’s conference league.

Banda scored in the 31st minute, but it was initially ruled an own goal before being awarded to him after the game.

His goal ensured the Croatian side secured a place in the qualification round for next season’s conference league.

The 25-year-old left Swedish club Djurgardens IF earlier this year to sign with Rijeka on a two-and-a-half-year. His contract also has an option to extend another year.

Meanwhile, Banda’s side also finished fourth in the Croatian top flight with 49 points.

In 19 games, the former Nchanga Rangers player scored two goals and two assist out of six starts.

Banda is now expected to be part of Zambia’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Ivory Coast on June 17, 2023.

Zambia need only a point from their remaining two games to qualify for the Africa Cup for the first time since 2015.

Zambia will resume AFCON qualifiers at the Levy Mwanawansa stadium in Ndola before traveling to Comoros for their group final match.
