Chipolopolo winger Edward Chilufya scored his first goal of the season for Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday night after coming off the bench to score his team’s second goal of the game in a 0-2 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Despite only starting eight games, he has made 16 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and six assists.
In June, on his 14th Chipolopolo appearance, Chilufya scored his first goal for the senior national team against Morocco. However, last month, during Zambia’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Ivory Coast, he sustained an injury and got just 26 minutes of play. He will hope to bounce back in the national colors next week when Chipolopolo hosts Chad in Ndola.
Musonda nets first goal of the season
In Tanzania, Kennedy Musonda opened his scoring account for the 2024-25 club season after finding the back of the net for Yanga SC in their 4-0 win over Pamba on Thursday.
The Power Dynamos striker, who has hardly started any games for the Tanzanian champions this season, scored his first goal of the season.
After being to the national team for Zambia’s next two games in the AfCON qualifiers, he will aim to score after scoring his first goal for Chipolopolo against Sierra Leone last month.
Fashion show continues in Saudi Arabia
Exiled Chipolopolo star Fashion Sakala netted his third league goal of the season to salvage a point for Al Fayha in their Saudi Pro League encounter against Al Wehda.
He converted a 104th-minute penalty to equalize for Al Fayha in the match, which ended 2-2.
Coach Avram Grant expects Sakala to apologize for publicly criticizing his tactics and accusing him of coercing players to work with his agent, Nir Karin, in a viral phone call recording with Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) communications manager, Sydney Mungala.
Sakala has not been called to the national team since the 2023 AfCON following his fallout with Grant.
