This weekend, a number of Chipolopolo Boys returned to action for their respective clubs. However, it did not go smoothly for all of them.
Despite assisting on his team’s only goal of the game, Patson Daka received a lot of criticism for missing a clear-cut chance in Leicester City’s 3-1 loss to Leeds United on Friday. All his efforts in that game were overshadowed when Leicestershire fans heavily criticized him after playing 73 minutes on the field. The Chipolopolo star could not add to his tally of 7 goals in 12 games for the Foxes, who are still leading the championship standings with 78 points after matchday 34.
Ayr United’s defender, Frankie Musonda, and his team lost 2-1 at home to Raith Rovers in the Scottish Championship on Saturday. The 26-year-old took part in the entire match against his former club. After matchday 24, Ayr sits fifth in the championship standings.
Kings Kangwa made his second appearance for relegation-threatened Kortrijk on Saturday, and the team lost again, this time 3-0 in the Jupiler Pro League to KV Mechelen. The Chipolopolo midfielder played the final 32 minutes of the game.
Skipper Lubambo Musonda also played 77 minutes for Silkeborg, who suffered a 2-0 away loss to Vejle Boldklub in the Danish Superligaen on Sunday.
Lameck Banda came on as a second-half substitute for US Lecce, which lost 4-0 at home to Inter Millan in the Italian Serie A on Sunday. Banda played the final 33 minutes of the game and had little opportunity to make an impact. Lecce is now four points above the relegation zone following matchday 26.
Sakala and Musonda scored
Tanzania-based striker, Kennedy Musonda scored a goal for Young Africans in their 4-0 win over Algeria’s CR Belouizdad in the CAF Champions League on Saturday. It was his first goal in the competition for the Tanzanian outfit who secured qualification for the quarterfinals of the competition. Musonda now has a goal and two assists in the Champions League this season.
Fashion Sakala also ended his seven-match goal drought with a brace for Al Fayha, who defeated Abha 3-2 in the Saudi Pro League on Saturday.
It was the first time the Chipolopolo striker scored after going seven matches without a goal for his club. He now has 9 goals and 3 assists in 21 matches in the Saudi League this season.
