Zambian defender Chitoshi Chinga has declared his ambition to return to the Chipolopolo setup, saying he is determined to earn another national team call-up through strong performances at club level.
The CAPS United defender previously represented Zambia at the 2024 COSAFA Cup and was a consistent figure for the Zimbabwean giants last season, playing a key role in helping the club secure safety in the Premier Soccer League.
Speaking in an interview, the former Nkana defender said his immediate focus is on working harder for CAPS United in the upcoming season, with the ultimate goal of forcing his way back into the national team.
“My target this season is to work extra hard and help the team fight for the title,” Chinga said. “Last season we finished on a good note, so this season the aim is to push for the league title and the cup. That is why I want to give my best at club level, so that I can be considered for the national team.”
I really want to contribute something – Chinga
Chinga also expressed excitement at the opportunities given to new players during Zambia’s campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, describing it as a major source of motivation.
“It was good watching the AFCON, and I was really happy for the players who were given a chance,” he said. “It shows that there is an opportunity for everyone. That kind of exposure pushes you to work extra hard because you can see that selection is based on performance.”
The defender emphasized his readiness to serve the national team if given another opportunity, stressing that commitment and consistency remain his guiding principles.
“I really want to contribute something to the national team, and the only way to do that is by fighting for the badge at my club. If given a chance, I am available.”
