The Football Association of Zambia has announced the coaches who will be involved in the player selection process for the countrywide trials.

Last week, the FAZ announced that its executive committee had agreed to conduct a talent search to identify new players for the national team from across the country following a consultative meeting on July 19, 2024.

FAZ’s provincial branches have since compiled lists of players to represent their provinces in the exercise.

On Friday, the association announced that it had “identified top coaches to lead the process, among them former Chipolopolo trainers Wedson Nyirenda, Beston Chambeshi, and Aggrey Chiyangi. Other coaching heavies include Dan Kabwe, Numba Mumamba, and Mwenya Chipepo,” read the statement in part.

FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga revealed that these coaches will be supported by additional talent scouts who will collaborate closely with provincial administrations.

The exercise will include 30 players from each province. The Lusaka team, led by Nyirenda, will have players from the Southern, Central, Eastern, Lusaka, and Western provinces. Chambeshi will manage the Copperbelt team, which consists of players from the Copperbelt, North Western, Luapula, Muchinga, and Northern provinces.

More trails for junior teams to be held- Kamanga

Kamanga added that this exercise is the first of many similar trials that will be held for various national team groups in order to expand the talent pool.

“The selection will be replicated across various national teams as part of widening the pool of players eligible for national duty,” he stated.

The selected players from the provincial teams will compete in Lusaka, where the final team will be picked to face the national team on August 2nd.

However, there has been no mention of national team head coach Avram Grant’s involvement in the ongoing player identification process.
