Avram Grant named his 25-man squad for this month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Congo Brazzaville and Niger.

However, the snubbing of Swizerland-based defender Miguel Chaiwa has raised eyebrows among fans and pundits.

The majority of the fans have pondered why the player was overlooked after making his UEFA Champions League debut with BSC Young Boys.

In response, Grant stated that the 19-year-old does not play regularly for his team, which is why he was left out.

“I will ask you, did you see him playing last year? How many people saw him playing last year with the Young Boys? Do you know how many games he played? Grant asked. “[He played] one game in the league and two games as a substitute in the Champions League. So I need to take players that are good in their club and play regularly or not regularly but are good for their club.”

He added, “I wish him all the best. When he starts playing [regularly] for his team, the door is open,” concluded the former Chelsea FC manager.

Grant also revealed that Zesco United midfielder Kelvin Kampamba and China-based striker Evans Kangwa have been ruled out due to injuries.

Captain Lubambo Musonda has also sustained an injury.

Grant said the player remains a doubt as he awaits his Danish club to confirm the extent of the injury.
