Following the recent release of Zambian midfielder Kelvin Kapumbu from Israeli second-division club Hapoel Petah Tikva, renowned FIFA agent Chiti Chitundu has weighed in on the challenges some Zambian players face when transitioning to foreign leagues.

Kapumbu’s first spell beyond the Zambian borders has turned out to be a forgettable one. He has been released just two months into his one-year-long deal.

Chitundu said in an interview that he sympathizes with the player as sometimes, it is not easy for one to adapt to the demands of football life in a foreign land.

“It’s unfortunate to see Zambian players face difficulties in adapting to foreign leagues. But it’s a common occurrence,” Chitundu stated in an interview. “The cultural, linguistic, and footballing differences can be quite daunting for many players.”

He said it is not always the player’s fault in some cases.

“In such a situation, there could be some drastic changes somewhere in the club because of pressure [from the fans] or the player himself has had a difficult to adjust to the food, or culture,” he said.

The agent further emphasized the importance of proper preparation and support for Zambian players venturing abroad. “Clubs and agents need to ensure that players are adequately prepared for the challenges they will face.”
