The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 has been postponed to August 2025 but the draw for the tournament will take place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Nairobi’s Kenyatta International Conventional Centre as scheduled.

The tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania has been moved from starting on February 1, 2025 to August 2025. According to CAF, this is because infrastructure in the host countries is not ready for use.

“More time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities, are at the levels, necessary for hosting a successful Total Energies African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024,” CAF said in a statement on Tuesday.

The tournament which was initially supposed to be held in 2024 is exclusively for African footballers competing in their respective domestic leagues.

The teams that have qualified for tournament are Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

Others are Nigeria, the Central Africa Republic (CAR), the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Sudan, Angola, Madagascar, and the three hosts.

Senegal are the reigning champions of this competition; they defeated 2022 hosts Algeria in the final in Algiers three years ago to win the title for the first time.
