Ahead of the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be held in Algeria from January 14 to February 4, 2023, coach Abdelmadjid Bougherra of that nation has revealed that his team intends to make a significant impact.
The CHAN is a tournament exclusively meant for home-based players, and the delayed 2022 edition will be played in Algeria starting on Friday.
Bougherra made the remarks on Saturday during a friendly match between the Desert Warriors and Ghana that ended in a scoreless draw at the recently constructed Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers.
The Desert Foxes missed a couple of chances in the match, but the head coach was keen on picking out the lessons from the friendly match against the Ghanaians.
“In the friendly match against Ghana, we discovered several good things, especially with our defense,” Bougherra said. “There are also negative points, which we must improve on. In any case, we must work to eliminate the negatives from our game.” “We’ll improve the attack of the team before the tournament starts.”
Algeria will kick off their campaign at the tournament with a Group A matchup against Libya on Friday before playing Ethiopia and Mozambique, and Bougherra is confident they will win the group as their target is solely winning the title.
