The goal for Red Arrows and Zesco United, Zambia’s CAF football representatives, is to advance to the two competition’s group stages.
Zesco United, the nine-time league champions, are in the Confederations Cup, while Red Arrows, the 2023–24 league champions, are playing in the CAF Champions League.
Red Arrows will face Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi, while Zesco United will battle it out with Zimbabwe’s Dynamos FC.
The first round’s Leg matchups are scheduled for August 16–18, 2024, while the return matches are scheduled for August 23–25, 2024.
Andrew Kamanga, Zambia’s FA president is confident the two teams will do well to help the country return back the four slots.
“We are keeping tabs on our CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup envoys especially after the draws were conducted last week. Our Champions Red Arrows will kick off their campaign against Malawian outfits Nyasa Big Bullets, while Zesco United will be against Harare Dynamos.
“We are confident Arrows and Zesco will do well”-Kamanga.
“Everyone in the country knows how important it is for these two clubs to do well in their respective competitions and help increase our target of getting back to having more representation. We are looking at the team targeting to be atleast in the group stages of their respective competitions,” he said.
“It’s not exactly how many clubs you have in CAF competitions but what you do with the slots you have. We are confident that they will represent our nation well when the tournament kicks off next month,” Kamanga added.
