Zambian Champions Power Dynamos are set to face Tanzanian giants Simba FC in the second round of the CAF Champions League preliminary at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium this Saturday.
Aba Yellow overturned a 2-1 loss to Namibia’s African Stars in the first leg to win 1-0 in Ndola and advance from the first round of the competition.
They will head into this weekend’s matchup with Simba at the back of a 2-1 victory over Nkwazi in the domestic league.
Simba, on the other hand, will seek to qualify for the group stage of the Competition for the fifth time by starting strong away.
Ngwenya issues daring statement to Simba SC
Speaking to the Dynamos media, the Kitwe-based side’s skipper, Godfrey Ngwenya, said there is nothing to fear about their opponents and believes his team is ready to cause an upset.
“Playing against Simba has actually given us more courage,” he said. “When you look at the records in the past few years, Simba is a big club compared to Power Dynamos. With the current crop of players, we have been encouraged more because we want to prove a point.
“We are going into this game as underdogs, but we are ready to upset Simba. Football is 90 minutes long, and we still have hope that we can beat Simba. We want to maintain a clean sheet; our target is to get to the finals of the competition,” concluded Ngwenya.
To advance to the group stage of the competition, Dynamos will have to beat Simba in the two-legged matchups.
The last time they played in the CAF Champions League second round was 11 years ago when they suffered a 7-1 aggregate defeat to Congolese giants TP Mazembe.
