Former Zambia international Francis Kasonde has urged Power Dynamos to remain disciplined and focused as they prepare for the return leg of their CAF Champions League first preliminary round tie against ASEC Mimosa.
The Zambian champions hold a 1-0 aggregate lead after Saturday’s hard-fought win at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, but Kasonde has warned that the job is far from finished.
“Power Dynamos did well to get a win and keep a clean sheet at home, but African football can be unpredictable,” Kasonde said. “They must avoid complacency because ASEC Mimosa are a very experienced side, especially when playing at home in Abidjan.”
Kasonde, who previously featured for Power Dynamos, said he believes the team has the quality to progress but must approach the second leg with discipline and caution.
“The team has what it takes to qualify for the next round, but they need to stay organised and take their chances,” he said. “They should respect ASEC’s quality while remaining confident in their own abilities.”
He also praised the technical bench for their tactical approach in the first leg.
“Credit goes to the coaches for ensuring a solid defensive performance. Keeping a clean sheet in a CAF match is not easy, and that gives Power a real advantage going into the second leg,” Kasonde added.
Power Dynamos will travel to Abidjan for the decisive clash, knowing that a draw or any win will be enough to see them through to the next round of Africa’s premier club competition.
