Zambia international striker Patson Daka has completed his move to German Bundesliga side Hamburger SV, signing a one-year contract with an option to extend for a further year.

The 27-year-old has a scheduled medical today and is expected to be officially unveiled by the club on Tuesday, according to sources.

Daka joins Hamburger SV after leaving Leicester City, where he spent five seasons following his move from RB Salzburg in 2021.

During his time with the Foxes, the Chipolopolo captain made 165 appearances, scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists. He also won the FA Community Shield, helped Leicester secure promotion back to the Premier League by winning the EFL Championship title, and leaves as the club’s all-time leading scorer in European competitions with six goals.

The move marks a new chapter in Daka’s career as he returns to top-flight football after competing in the English second tier last season.

Hamburger SV will be hoping the Zambian forward’s pace, experience, and eye for goal will strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.

Christopher Katongo was the last Zambian to score in the German Bundesliga, netting three goals for Arminia Bielefeld. Since then, no Zambian has featured in the league, with Patson Daka now set to become the latest Zambian to play in Germany’s top flight.

The other two Zambians to score in the Bundesliga are Andrew Sinkala, who scored three goals for FC Augsburg, and Moses Sichone, who found the net once for FC Köln.

Daka will now have the opportunity to write his own piece of history in the Bundesliga, just as he did during his time in England.
