‘Re-elected’ Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga is in no mood to discuss the ‘noise’ that has been generated following the disqualification of eight candidates who had filed nominations to challenge him.

On Monday, the narrative around the March 29 FAZ elective annual general meeting took an interesting angle when it was revealed by FAZ electoral committee chairperson Ronald Hatoongo that eight candidates had been knocked out on various technicalities.

Those who put up their hand to challenge Kamanga were FC MUZA owner Keith Mweemba, former FAZ general secretary and Kamanga ally Adrian Kashala, and former Chipolopolo vice-captain Emmanuel Munaile.

Others are journalists Godfrey Chikumbi and Alex Njobvu, veteran sports administrator Machacha Shepande, FAZ executive committee member Francis Hafwiti and financial expert and businessman Mumbo Lombe.

The eight have until Friday to challenge their disqualification.

On Tuesday, Kamanga refused to answer questions from journalists who had waylaid him on the sidelines of the CAF Safety and Security Workshop at Lusaka’s Tecla Hotel.

“Anything to do with elections is [a matter of] the electoral committee,” Kamanga responded to reporters who tried to solicit a comment from him on the current situation, “me, I am just a candidate.”

Kamanga reluctantly hinted that he would talk about elections when the process is done.

“…we can talk to them [the media] when we are done for now let’s wait,” Kamanga said before driving off.

The elective annual general meeting will be preceded by provincial elections albeit seven out of the 10 chairperson seats have already been decided as some challengers were deemed invalid. The challengers have the right to appeal.
