Fading giants CAPS United came back to winning ways with a slim 1-0 win over Hwange in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter played at Colliery on Sunday.
The Green Machine ended Hwange’s four-unbeaten-game run to collect maximum points from a Rodwell Chinyengetere header in the first half.
CAPS United had gone for 10 games without winning in regulation time prior to this match and there were fears that they would find themselves battling for relegation if they had failed to win this game.
The win relieved the team of pressure and they will be looking forward to building on it.
CAPS started the season strongly, with many tipping them for the championship. But they flopped and began to fight for survival.
CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe said they are going through a difficult period and they will need to work extra hard.
“We are going through a difficult patch as a club,” he said.
“I feel we need to work harder to move away from that precarious position because we are a club with a history and we deserve better as a football family.”
While fellow Harare giants Dynamos saw their chances of winning a league title in nine years fade into oblivion after losing 1-0 to Herentals.
They remain 11 points behind leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars, albeit with a game in hand, going into the last eight games of the season.
