Zimbabwe Launches Initiative To Scout Talent in the UK

ZIFA has launched a “Roots & Dreams” initiative in London, a programme aimed at scouting new talent.

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President Nqobile Magwizi officially launched the “Roots & Dreams” initiative in London, aiming to reconnect Zimbabwean football with its global diaspora and open new pathways for young talent to represent the nation.

Joined by Warriors head coach Michael Nees, Magwizi introduced the initiative as a dual-symbol of identity and ambition — celebrating the cultural roots that unite Zimbabweans around the world while laying the groundwork for future football success through inclusive development structures.

“The engagement in London proved both fruitful and inspiring. The ZIFA leadership engaged with members of the Zimbabwean diaspora, responding to thoughtful questions, listening to innovative ideas, and sharing the Association’s vision for a new era of Zimbabwean football,” the ZIFA wrote in a statement. “What was clearly evident throughout the evening was the shared passion for our national game and the collective desire to see Zimbabwe’s football teams continue to grow, compete, and succeed on the global stage.”

The ZIFA said the initiative is more than a symbolic gesture—it represents a strategic vision to engage Zimbabweans abroad, create opportunities for youth, and build national teams that reflect the country’s best talent, wherever it may reside.

The second leg of the engagement series will take place in Birmingham this evening, as ZIFA continues its UK tour to strengthen ties with the diaspora community.

ZIFA reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that Zimbabwe’s national teams represent not only the skill but also the spirit of the nation—both at home and abroad.
