Patrick Mabedi, the interim coach for Malawi, reported that thugs had broken into his home in Johannesburg, South Africa, to Bolanews in Malawi.

In telephone interview Mabedi said that the attackers stormed into his home after his daughter, who was living there, left for Malawi to join him from South Africa.

Additionally, the person she was living with was also away, giving thieves the opportunity to get into his home and steal soccer medals and several other valuables, including radio and TV, the values of which are unknown.

“The news is true,” he said. “I received a call informing me of the news from South Africa.”

He added, “I checked, and yes, it was true. I don’t know when they looted my house, and I have a list of items missing as I am yet to analyze video footage.”

In 2010, Mabedi relocated to South Africa after accepting a coaching position with the Moroka Swallows Youth.

Mabedi guided the flames to Cosafa fourth finish.

The Malawian also coached the Mpumalanga Black Aces and the Cape Town All-Stars. He was hired in 2017 as Kaizer Chiefs’ assistant manager before being elevated to interim coach.

Mabedi became the U20 coach for Malawi’s national team in 2020, then in 2021, he advanced to assistant coach for the senior team.

He is a caretaker coach for the Malawi National team until next month following the firing of head coach Mario Marinica. Mabedi guided the Flames of Malawi to a fourth-place finish at the just-ended Cosafa Cup in South Africa.
