Idana scored vital goals helping Silver strikers to finish second in the first round of the TNM Super League

Following yesterday’s 2-1 away triumph over Extreme FC, who are currently in last position in the TNM super league, Silver Strikers are once again in the lead.

Babangida Ishaya scored a consolation goal for the home team while Patrick Macheso and Chimwemwe Idana scored crucial goals for Silver Strikers.

With 14 games played, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers of Blantyre have the same number of points as Silver, who currently has 28 after 13 games.

Strikers dislodged FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who are third on the league table with 26 points after 13 games, and Chitipa United, a rookie team, is in second place with 26 points after 14 games.

Silver’s assistant coach Taonga Chimodzi said it was a good game even if his team had numerous scoring opportunities to score more goals.

“It’s encouraging to have scored all possible points tonight after a poor outside performance last week. We are currently concentrating on our upcoming game, a Lilongwe Derby versus Civil Service United,” he remarked.

Despite losing, Extreme’s head coach Elvis Kafoteka was happy with his squad. “It was not our day, he added. “We did almost everything, and we had opportunities to collect a point.”

Wanderers defeats Mafco FC 2-0.

In another fixture, Wanderers defeated Malawi Defence Force sponsored side Mafco FC 2-0 with goals from Vitumbuko Kumwenda and Vincent Nyangulu.

Speaking after the game, Wanderers coach Mark Harrison said it was the toughest match facing Mafco in their backyard.

“It was not an easy match, we scored two goals in the first half and in the second half it was a different match as Mafco dominated. I should thank my boys for the good play,” he said.

Mafco coach Pritchard Mwansa admitted that it was a bad day in office. “We were second on the ball in the first half and a much improved side in the second half, but we failed to be composed and utilize the chances we created,” he said.
