This Saturday marks the start of the 2025 Malawi Super League, yet the first game has generated controversy.

According to the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) the 2025 season would begin with Silver Strikers, league champions, hosting FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium.

Even though Bingu National Stadium is located in Lilongwe, the Lilongwe-based Silver Strikers have objected to the move, saying that Silver Stadium is their home field rather than Bingu National Stadium.

Silver Strikers claim that hosting Bullets at Bingu is to favour the Blantyre based side.

Writing on his Facebook account, Silver chief executive officer Patrick Chimimba said Malawi football will soon surprise people with decisions.

“We will be surprised one day to be told that we should not play a match for points have already been given to a particular team,” he wrote.

Chimimba says the decision to fix the match at a neutral ground does not make sense hence protesting Sulom’s move.

“Our stadium is certified to host matches, and it has hosted big matches before, we wonder why this time around we should play at Bingu when our stadium is fit to host this match,” said Chimimba.

“We will go at Bingu but under protest for this is not making sense,” he added.

SULOM insisted that Bingu Stadium will host the match because the venue is an alternative venue for Silver Strikers.
